 Carroway Island is a haven for birdwatchers and nature enthusiasts. Its marshes and waterways support species such as Clapper Rails, Eastern Willets, Seaside Sparrows, and Glossy Ibis. During migration, visitors may also see Common Yellowthroat, Northern Harrier, and a variety of warblers. The island’s habitat supports nesting Terns and Black Skimmers, while the shallows of Cod Harbor are home to Belted Kingfishers, Laughing Gulls, and Forster’s Terns.

There are no elaborate menus here—only what’s been brought in, prepared well, and served without fuss. 

 Celebrate with us every August, in the Tri-Island Festival brings together the residents of Smith, Tangier, and Carroway as it has for generations. The week is marked by friendly rivalries—boat races, dock games, and long tables set with each island’s best cooking. Crab, oysters, and stews are judged as seriously as any contest, though the results are rarely agreed upon.
