Ferry service between Carroway Island and Onancock, Virginia
Island Access by Invitation Only
Passage across the waters to Carroway Island is arranged only on those occasions when the island extends invitation to guests. The ferry continues to depart from the familiar docks at Onancock Harbor and Tangier Harbor, though travel is not available for general tourism and tickets are not offered for public purchase.
Those who have received invitation will be provided with the necessary details regarding departure times, arrival instructions, and customary considerations for the crossing. Seating is limited, and arrangements are made with care so as not to disturb the island’s quiet rhythms.
Payment, when applicable, is traditionally accepted in cash or by check, as the island has seen little reason to adopt modern card systems. Fares may be adjusted from time to time as conditions upon the water require.
We thank visitors for respecting the island’s longstanding preference for measured and intentional travel.

The Carroway-Onancock Ferry runs between Carroway Island and Onancock, Virginia from the first weekend of May to the end of September, and then the first weekend in October. Service is provided on a first-come, first-serve basis, unless you have a reservation. The boat ride takes approximately one forty-five minutes each way.

Ferry Tickets
Those wishing to cross the waters to Carroway Island are invited to telephone ahead to secure passage. Travelers may also simply arrive at the dock at either Onancock Harbor or Tangier Harbor, where tickets are granted in the order guests present themselves, unless prior arrangements have been made.
Kindly note that payment is accepted in cash or by check, as the Island has yet to adopt the ways of credit cards. Fares may be adjusted from time to time as tides, weather, and circumstance require.

Passage across the quiet waters to Carroway Island is offered at the following customary rates:
