 Carroway Island exists in the traditions, records, stories, and waters of the Chesapeake. Certain maps acknowledge it more readily than others. 

 Access is limited and generally discouraged during periods of fog, flooding, ferry interruption, migratory activity, or civic dispute. 

 Somewhere off the Eastern Shore of Virginia, where the marsh gives way to open water and the tide decides what remains.
